Recycled & Sustainable Art

Image
Hello my loves, it’s Wednesday. That means it’s time for another chapter of The Artist's Survival Guide for the End of the World. As always I am your host, Kodi, and this week we’re talking about “Recycled & Sustainable Art."  This is another topic I am personally very passionate about. Growing up in the Midwest we regularly cleaned litter, composted, and came together as a community to educate minds about the importance of actively cleaning up our impact on the planet. How does this tie into art? Reusable items such as dingy clothes, old books or plastic bottles are the perfect materials for a  crafty   Sunday.   Not only can you cut your costume, art supply, and prop budget, you are helping the planet at the same time. So lets check out some ways you can create with a cause.       When I was a little girl, we didn't have much, but I was taught to make the best of any situ...

Art and Mental Health

Image
Welcome back to this post apocalyptic artistic haven. If you haven't seen my recent posts on social media, I was in Costa Rica this past week with the family I nanny for. I can't tell you how cathartic and healthy this trip was for me. The quiet ocean breeze and slow pace provided a sweet caress for all of my recent woes and troubles. It felt like a colossal waste of time, even though I could barely keep my eyes open. I never felt unhappy just not healthy. This unhealthy, high strung feeling became normal to me. This brings me to this week's topic: Art and Mental Health.  I feel like this is a huge issue that we need to address so I'm going to talk about the stigma on mental health, mental health as an artist, and ways to turn your woes into some kick a@$ art.  ...

The "Putting up your own work" Checklist

Alright divas, we have made it through the last week or at least I hope you have. Before I start with my next subject, I just want to thank everyone who took time out of their day to listen to me rant! I hope you learned something or found a tactic to help you cope with our insane lives. Okay, down to business.  This week's subject is about putting up your own work. Do you have some songs, a show, a performance piece, a puppet show?? Wanna put it up so others can see? Don't know how? Look no further! Last year I put up my original immersive musical "Chrysalis" from the ground up, and now I will share with you all I learned from that controlled chaos in the form of a checklist. I am hoping this will provide you guys with a real functioning checklist that will allow you skip some of the mistakes I made while putting up my work. And away we go: ASSEMBLE A CREATIVE TEAM AND CREW ◻ Gather an Avengers style team of performers that believes in your work as much as you do...
